She attended school at Arcadia High School and worked at the Arcadia movie theatre in her “teens.” After graduation, “Bobbie" and her best friend traveled to New Orleans and worked for the U.S. Selective Service. She married her beloved husband, J. R. Dawson in January of 1947. She worked at Western Electric/AT&T and retired after 20 years.
Bobbie had many hobbies. She was an avid bowler, a member of the 600 club and of the only bowling team to have custom made cowboy bowling boots. She loved bingo, cards and dominos. She was a member of the domino group at Southern Hills Park. She loved books and would read a book a day sometimes.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Ray Cox Ritch of Waco, Texas; son, Richard Dwight “Rick” Dawson and his wife Mary Roberson Dawson of West Monroe; daughter, Deborah Dawson Hatfield and husband George of Shreveport; daughter, Betsy Dawson Hubble and husband Rodney of Magnolia Springs, AL; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great, great-grandchildren.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her beloved husband J.R. Dawson, son James R. “Jim” Dawson, sisters Zelma Cox Cunnigham and Marie Wechsler, and brother Frank Cox.
Services will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home on Mansfield Road in Shreveport, LA. Family will host the visitation from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2020 and services will follow at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Dr. Chad Hardbarger. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons Eric Hatfield, Heath Hatfield, Chance Hatfield, Taylor Dawson, Adam Hubble and Hayes Hubble. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Pearson, LD Land, Maurice Thrasher and the Southern Hills Domino Group.
A special heartfelt thanks to St. Joseph Hospice staff for being so kind and a special thanks to Sherrika Moody, R.N. and Juanita Sherman, CNA.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask donations be made to Shriners Hospital, St Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice and that all who knew her as well as those simply reading her memorial spread kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.
