Cheryl Hovis Bass

Cheryl was born on May 15, 1971, in Hickory, North Carolina. She has been a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana since 1976.

Cheryl was a graduate of Southwood High School. She attended college at both Bossier Parish Community College and LSU-Shreveport. Cheryl was employed as a

Senior Member Services Representative for Vantage Health Plan. Other places of employment include Casino Magic and Horseshoe Casino. Cheryl attended church regularly at both The Simple Church and Countryside Baptist Church.

Cheryl is survived by her son Brandon Patrick Bass. Additional survivors include her parents, Larry Albert Hovis, formally of Hickory, North Carolina and Paula Serio Hovis, of Shreveport, Louisiana; her brother Warren Albert Hovis and wife Karrie; and her nieces Lindsey, Patricia, Corinn, LeeAnn and Rachael. Additional extended family include Brian Bass and Ronnie and Cyndi Bass. Cheryl is also survived by a host of other family and friends.

For those who knew Cheryl, her son Brandon was the ultimate joy and center of her life. From the day he was born, she cherished every minute that she could experience with Brandon. Cheryl was an incredible mother, friend and mentor to him.

All services will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home on Mansfield Road in Shreveport. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 5, from 5:00 p.m – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will start at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2013 with Pastor Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Centuries Memorial Park.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the healthcare providers at University Health –Shreveport (LSU Health Sciences Center – Shreveport), especially the physicians and nursing staff in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Countryside Baptist Church in Keithville, Louisiana, or the charity of their choice.
