DJ knew from a young age that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his dad, uncle, and brothers to become a Shreveport Fireman at the age of 18. He loved his entire 33 year career and retired in December 2011 as Battalion Chief.
If DJ ever met a stranger they left as a friend. He was always willing to help anyone in need and had an infectiously charming personality that left an impression on all who had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a devoted father to Lauren and his constant loyalty and love for her will never be forgotten.
In his retirement, every day was truly a holiday! He enjoyed days golfing with friends, fishing, rooting on the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints. He and Donayle enjoyed traveling together and often said that what they did best was absolutely nothing but simply hanging out and enjoying each other.
He was at his absolute best when enjoying his grandchildren and Ashworth nieces and nephews. He cherished the moments with them riding the four-wheeler and golf cart, letting them ride the bull during weekend sleepovers and taking the grandboys fishing.
DJ passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the age of 64. He is now reunited with his dad, Billy James Glass; mom, Nelda Glass and his four legged kids, Jasmine AKA "Boogie" and Bud AKA "Bud Stud."
Left to cherish his memory are his adoring wife and love of his life, Donayle Ashworth; beloved daughter, Lauren Glass Etier (Brian); his grandchildren, who had special nicknames given to them by their "Pop", Allen "Buck", Andy "Drew Dog", Campbell "Soup Bone" and Emily "Em" Etier; brothers, Danny "DC" Glass (Frankie), David Glass (Paula); Glass nieces and nephews, Billy G. (Misti), Amy (Brandon), Mitchell (Mali), Megan (Glen); his In-laws, Don and Jodie Ashworth; brothers-in-law, Chris (Lisa), Casey (Laurie), Michael (Robyn); Ashworth nieces and nephews, Ty, Sadie, Bradie, Christian, Erin, Kayla, and great niece, Harlynn Jade; his extended Rambin and Ashworth family, who thought of him as one of their own; his brothers and sisters on the SFD; his Sunset Acres childhood friends; and his Querbes golf buddies.
To all of our family and friends, in your loving words and actions, you've reminded us of the way DJ lived his life. May we honor him by living our life with unrelenting service and unwavering kindness to one another. Your support at our darkest time will be long remembered by his family.
A celebration of life for DJ will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Open Range Fellowship, 9950 Hwy 80, Greenwood, LA 71033. Officiating the service will be Bro. Dennis Aaron.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in DJ's memory may be made to CHARGE Syndrome Foundation, https://www.chargesyndrome.org/; and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/.
