Throughout her life, Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a housewife, and for many years she sold Avon and Tupperware, where she built strong friendships with those in her community. Dorothy had a great love for games, especially bingo, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a lifelong member of Foursquare Gospel Church. Dorothy will be greatly missed by those who knew her best and loved her most.
She is survived by her children, Paula Nugent Bazer (Jon), Lisa Nugent McKenzie (Phillip), John Albert Bass, Jamie Andrew Bass (Cindy), and stepdaughter Jane Bass Sharbono (Charles). Dorothy’s legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: Kyle McKenzie (Caroline), Cole McKenzie (Aimee), Jacie Ann Bass, Lydie Jane Bass, Rylie Jean Bass, and great-grandson Lee Tillman McKenzie. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren Leah Kay Pouncy, Clifford Fletcher, Megan Gongre, and Jordan Smith, as well as nieces Martha Trammell Horne and Ann Trammell Henderson.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hoot Bass; her son, George “Bo” Nugent; her parents Ollie Dewey Odom and Mary Lillian White Odom; and her sisters, Rev. Mary Lou Odom, Patricia Bernice Odom Trammell, and JoAnn Odom Darrow. She was also preceded in death by her nieces Beverly Ann Darrow and Deborah Kay Trammell, and her mentors, Cecil and Nola Amos.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Alisha Jean Disotell and the Nightingale Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Dorothy in her final days.
A visitation will be held in Dorothy’s honor on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM with Bro. Paul Weaver officiating. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Centuries Memorial Park, Tower II Garden, Lot 78 Space 1.
Pallbearers include Jon Bazer, Phillip McKenzie, Kyle McKenzie, Cole McKenzie, Jordan Smith, Robert Gordon, and Honorary Pallbearer Lee Tillman McKenzie.
