Graveside services to honor the life of Mr. Earl Vancurtis Pickerel, 87, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Centuries Memorial Park with Dr. David Farmer officiating.
Earl was born November 10, 1923, and entered into rest on September 7, 2011, at Christus Highland Hospital following a sudden illness. He was a native of Robinson, KS and had lived in Keithville, LA for eleven years.
Earl attended Byrd High School and served in the U.S. Army from September, 1943 through February, 1946. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with three bronze battle stars, Bronze Service Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation with one bronze star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, and Victory Medal. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 37 years of faithful service and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Preceding Earl in death are his wife, Virginia Pickerel; two brothers and two sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Barbara Jean Emerson and husband, Phillip, David Pickerel and wife, Dawn, and Mary Ann Pickerel; brother, Robert Pickerel; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; special niece, Betty Lou Walker; and one cousin, Shirley Cobbs.
