She grew up in Monroe, Louisiana, where she attended McDonough Girls School through her 8th grade year. She worked as a file clerk in the credit department at Hibernia National Bank from 1951 to 1956 before moving to Shreveport, Louisiana with her husband, Ted T. Walker. While Ted worked at Delta Air Lines as a mechanic, Evelyn worked to obtain her GED from Woodlawn High School.
Evelyn was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She was the best stay at home Mom ever! She was a wonderful cook and always had a home cooked meal ready for her family. Her home was immaculate; floors were swept, everything was organized and kept tidy. Evelyn was very supportive of her husband and children and always had their back. She enjoyed camping with family and friends. Most of all, she treasured her family and loved spending time with them. Her life was a blessing to everyone she met.
Evelyn was passionate about music. Despite having few lessons, she was an accomplished singer, pianist, organist, and played the accordion, and ukulele. She could play music by ear and could begin playing along if someone just hummed a tune. She loved playing music for her family and church, church camps and weddings. She loved refinishing furniture in her spare time. Evelyn was a devoted Christian. She was an active member of Werner Park Church of the Nazarene and GracePointe Church of the Nazarene in Shreveport for over 30 years. She was involved in choir, church camps, VBS, mission work and helping with church meals. Her life was in service to others.
