Shreveport, LA- After a long hard fight against Alzheimer’s, Joan passed gently into heaven on September 24, 2013.
Joan was born April 24, 1930 in Holbrook NE. She graduated from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Lincoln, NE as an RN. She worked as an ER nurse at hospitals in Omaha Ne. After moving to Shreveport in 1966, Joan specialized in geriatrics, serving as Director of Nursing at several area facilities. She loved caring for the elderly.
Joan was a Charter member of St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church. Before her illness over took her, she served in many capacities including being a Lay Eucharistic Minister, serving both on the altar and visiting the sick. Joan was also a member of St. Dymphna Circle and at one time was the corresponding secretary of the Catholic Women’s League.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Otto Warner and Rose Evelyn Hilker Warner, brother James Warner, sister Norma Jean Layman and infant daughter, Ann Elizabeth Reiland.
She leaves behind her husband of almost 60 years, Philip L. Reiland, Sr, daughter Mary Flanders and her husband Michael, son Philip L. Reiland, Jr and his wife, Nancy Wells. Nana is survived by 4 grandchildren, Travis Owen and wife Cyndi Dear-Owen, Laura Reiland Sutterer and husband Nick, David Reiland and wife Lowry and Benjamin Reiland. Nana is also has 2 great grandchildren, Jude Owen and Mary Beth Owen.
Other survivors include her brother Robert Warner, Jr and wife Marjorie, her twin brother Joe Warner, special sister in law Eunice Warner, all of Nebraska, brother Jerome Warner in Colorado and sister in law Pat Warner of North Carolina.
Visitation with the family will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home from the hours of 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013 in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park.
Honoring Mrs. Reiland as pallbearers will be: Travis Owen, David Reiland, Ben Reiland, Nick Sutterer, Phil Reiland, Jr. and Michael Flanders.
Very special thanks to all the wonderful people at The Oaks East Wing for caring for Mother so gently and lovingly. And thank you to Cyndi Dear Owen and all of the compassionate people from St. Joseph Hospice. Your love for all of us is such a comfort.
