Joyce Marie White Burgett was born on July 12, 1926 to Wesley White and Hazel Wilson White in Tupelo, Oklahoma. She married Joel Ambrose Burgett on July 3, 1947 and he was the love of her life. They adopted 2 children, Melinda, born on October 12, 1954 and Joel David, born on January 2, 1959.
She passed from this life safe in the arms of Jesus on September 18, 2021. She was preceded in death by her daddy, Wesley White, her mama, Hazel White and her husband of 63 years, Joel. She was also preceded in death by 3 siblings, Charles David White, Edith Burgett and Opal Sconyers and by her son, Joel David.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister Melba Rygg and her daughter, Melinda Hunter and son-in-law, Darwin, along with 4 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; Jeremy Hunter, his wife Ashleigh and their children, Nyah, Lyra, Ayla, Ezra and Arya; Gina Marie Hunter and her husband, Carl Soderstrom and their children, Greysen Hunter and Ella Joyce; Heather Wilkin and her husband, Tom and their children, McKenna Ivey, Addison Ivey, Jordan Linden and her husband, Collin, Abby Wilkin and Thomas Wilkin; and, Brittany Smith and her husband, Ryan Smith and their sons, Jackson, Cooper and Maverick.
Joyce was a faithful Christian and a member of the Sarepta church of Christ. Through the years she had been a Bible class teacher and an Elder’s wife. She has served the Lord in many places like Duncanville, Texas; Arvada, Colorado; Mineola, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana.
She liked to cook. Her famous yeast rolls were all the rage anywhere she took them. She liked to entertain guests in her home. She adored her husband and loved her family very much.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the loving care given to Joyce by Sherry Powell, Felicia Tyler and Christy Austin of Regional Hospice along with sitters Jennifer Powell and Becca Morgan.
A visitation for Joyce will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 10 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Honoring her as Pallbearers are Ryan Smith, Jackson Smith, Carl Soderstrom, Tom Wilkin and Colin Linden.
