Born in Russellville, Arkansas, Brooks was the son of Sharon Lea Teeter and Richard Owens Teeter. He dedicated his life to his service in healthcare as a nurse and to his love of music as a french horn player.
Brooks served with the Louisiana State Police as a state trooper posted at LSU Medical Center in the emergency department. His observation of emergency medicine sparked his interest in what would become a long and respected career as an Emergency Department Registered Nurse. He spent over 35 years at LSU Medical Center and later Ochsner LSU Health. His ability to stay composed under pressure, paired with his deep compassion for patients and colleagues, made him a trusted and admired presence in the ER. Whether responding to trauma cases or offering comfort in moments of crisis, Brooks made a difference every single day. He was a preceptor for hundreds of new nurses and mentored hundreds of future doctors at LSU Medical School. He has shaped the compassion and careers of countless doctors and nurses who practice today.
Brooks was an avid traveler and had a special place in his heart for San Pedro, Belize. He traveled there several times and made friends with locals and expatriates from Canada, Great Britain, and the US alike. He introduced Belize to his family and to this day, his younger brother Rick, and his wife, Michelle, travel there every chance they get. The picture chosen for this obituary is of him on the beach in San Pedro, his happy place in "La Isla Bonita".
He was a proud graduate of Northwestern State University, earning both a Bachelor’s degree in Music and an Associate’s degree in Nursing.
Music remained a cornerstone of Brooks’ life. He was a founding member, French horn player, and officer with the Shreveport Municipal Concert Band, and also performed with the Centenary Wind Ensemble and at First United Methodist Church in Shreveport. His love of music was matched only by his dedication to it — a lifelong passion he shared with his community.
Brooks is survived by his stepmother, Jeannette Teeter; his brother, Richard Lee Bonner Teeter (Michelle Teeter); and his sister, Anne Marie Teeter (Paula Doucet). He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Richard Gilbert Bonner Teeter (Eli Teeter), Cayenne Pearl Teeter, Christopher Brooks Willis, and Rachel Sue Price (Ronda Price).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Owens Teeter and Sharon Lea Teeter.
Brooks will be remembered for the lives he touched — as a law enforcement officer, a nurse, a musician, and a beloved family member. His legacy is one of service, strength, and heart.
