Lyle Frank Nelson Jr passed away peacefully at the age of 91, known and loved by is family and friends as “Snookie”. Lyle was born June 18th, 1930 and went to be with his heavenly Father March 26th, 2022.
Funeral to be held Tuesday, April 5th, 2022 at Centuries Memorial 8801 Mansfield Rd. Shreveport, LA. Visitation begins at 9:30am followed by Service at 10:30am; Burial to follow at NWLA Veteran's Cemetery. Keithville, LA. Rev. Buddy Hankins officiating.
Lyle grew up in Shreveport, making most of downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods his playground. From climbing trees, to making sling shots. If you know, you know. Snookie never met a stranger and was always ready to share a story. Taking on a dare or two. Climbing the outside of the Municipal Auditorium just to mention one. Even pumping gas for Elvis when he was in town at the Hayride. You could say Snookie lived life.
Lyle went on to meet the love of his life, Joann. Married for 64 years. Together they helped raised their three kids. Lyle held many jobs throughout his life, but the most important one was father, husband, & friend. If you had the opportunity to meet Snookie, you probably had something on your shirt and you found out quickly he loved to make you laugh. From the flicks of your nose to the way he ordered his “Chicken Fried Steak”. Or the famous eyebrow lifts, to ending almost every sentence with “…right there”. He loved playing softball and bowled for many years. Later, he made sure to tune in to watch wrestling even if it meant interrupting Mom’s Hallmark movie. He was a man who lived a long life filled with ups and downs, but he chose to focus on the ups. He loved his family & friends, but most of all his heavenly Father. He was a deacon at Southside Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. He never missed an opportunity to share the love of Jesus and he was always willing to help others in need. As I’m sure he’s heard the words we all hope to hear, “WELL DONE, MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT”.
