

Obituary for Maria Herzog LorickMaria Herzog Lorick won eternal victory over ovarian cancer on February 4, 2010. Maria fought a courageous battle with the disease for thirty two months and eighteen days. Maria was cofounder of The Maria Lorick Heart of Hope Cancer Foundation, was the recipient of the Shreveport Mayor’s HERA Award, and was recently awarded the Humanitarian Service Award by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. She was a compassionate lady who devoted her efforts to raising awareness of ovarian cancer symptoms, encouraging other cancer patients, and establishing cancer support groups. Maria helped develop the “journey counselor” support system for cancer patients and families. Her entire life exemplified her unwavering love for God and compassion for others.Maria is survived by her devoted husband John M. Lorick, six children, Holly Tunstall and husband Jeremy, Cody Evans and fiancée Jenie, Michele Dauzat and husband Wayne, Jennifer Carey and husband Ed, Britany Lorick and fiancée Gene, Nathan Lorick and wife Jenna. She was a loving “Grammy” to her eleven grandchildren. She is also survived by mother Betty Herzog, mother-in-law Anis Lorick, sister Pattie Horn and husband Tim, brothers Larry Herzog, and Doug Herzog and wife Shirley. Maria is preceded in death by her father James Herzog.The family wishes to thank those who went the extra mile to treat Maria during her journey with cancer and ensure her comfort. Special thanks to Dr. Haun Le, Dr. Chad Hargon, Dr. Bill Norwood, Dr. Destin Black, Dr. Ricky Owers, and Dr. Petra Ketterl. Appreciation is also expressed to the staff of Four East Willis Knighton North, Life Care Hospital Linwood, and Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held Monday, 5-8 p.m., at Summer Grove Baptist Church.The funeral service will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., also at Summer Grove Baptist Church.Officiating will be Pastor Rod Masteller, Pastor Billy Crosby, Pastor and Son Nathan Lorick, and Pastor Murray Hodge.In lieu of flowers, donations to The Maria Lorick Heart of Hope Cancer Foundation are encouraged.
