Mrs. Marilyn Benson Meeks

Funeral services for Marilyn Benson Meeks, 63, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Shreveport, La. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.

She was born to the late John and Elva Benson of Serena, Il, Aug 23, 1949, in Aurora, Il. She passed away on May 29, 2013 in Morristown, NJ. Marilyn graduated from Serena High School in 1967 and received a BA in English from Aurora University in 1971. She married Jeffrey Meeks in 1972, and they lived in Aurora, Il and Claremont, NC, before relocating to Shreveport, La in 1979 to raise their two children. In 1996 they relocated to Hackettstown, NJ. Marilyn worked as a rehab counselor for the handicapped and as a Librarian before becoming a full time mom.

Marilyn was an active member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, serving on the church council and as a teacher. She was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for many years, having served as society President, zone Vice President, and zone President.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Jeffrey Meeks of Hackettstown, NJ; daughter Melissa Meeks of Shreveport, La; son Matthew Meeks of Hackettstown, NJ; two sisters, Sandra Fletcher of Braidwood, Il and Karen Zink of Earlville, Il; a brother John Benson of Oshkosh, Wi; two nieces and five nephews; and a number of other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Chris Stechman, Wayne Norr, Mike Holland, Matt Holland, Mack McKinley and Mike O'Conner.
