

SHREVEPORT, LA – Funeral services celebrating the life of Mavis Elaine Womack O’Rourke,”Mama Gal” 85, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2013, at Brookwood Baptist Church. Reverend John Harp will officiate along with Reverend Bill Robertson, Jr. assisting. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreverport. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2013at the funeral home.
Mavis was born on October 22, 1927, in Sikes, LA. She met our Savior on March 8, 2013. She was a longtime resident of Shreveport and a member of Brookwood Baptist Church. Following a successful accounting career with AT&T, Mavis retired to spend more time with her family and friends. Mavis was well known for her kindness, generosity, and love of the Lord. She often volunteered her time and her culinary talents and was usually the first to respond when there was someone in need. Mavis was a voracious reader and loved to laugh, often telling colorful jokes. Mavis truly reflected what it means to behold Southern charm.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, Ivy and Erah Womack,and step-daughter, Pam and her husband, John O’Rourke.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Violet Robertson; her five children, Carol Edmonds, Sandy Ferguson, Sam Willis, James Willis and Kevin O’Rourke;
Thirteen grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren , as well as, numerous extended family members.
Mavis’ grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
