Maxine was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was very involved in various groups in her community. Maxine was President of the Shreveport African Violet Society. She was a dedicated member of her church, Sunset Church of God, serving as President of the Women's Missionary Society.
Maxine enjoyed growing and propagating plants. African Violets, Roses, Daylilies and Irises were her favorite to grow. She was excited about traveling. She traveled to 48 states in the United States including Hawaii and Alaska. Her laughter was infectious. She was always having fun especially playing dominoes and everyone could hear her laughing and cackling well into the night. She took piano lessons from Mrs. Cook and played at many piano recitals. Her favorite song was "Last Date" by Floyd Cramer. Most of all, Maxine adored spending time with her family and friends.
Maxine went home to be with her Lord on Monday, January 29, 2024 in Shreveport, Louisiana at the age of 92. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Elijah Humphrey and Ruby Ola Mitchell Humphrey and all of her siblings, as well as her infant son, and first husband and father of her children, Brian Dickerson. She is also preceded in death by her second husband, Alton E. Slayter, and her youngest son, Randall Brian Dickerson Sr. She will be deeply missed by those she loved.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Marlin W. Dickerson; grandchildren, Aaron W. Dickerson, Nathan "Nate" B. Dickerson and wife, Jessica Lewis, SaraAnne Dickerson, Randall B. Dickerson Jr. and Randa Brianne Huber; along with 12 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Maxine will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home & Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park.
