

Patsy Ruth Carter born on October 6, 1955, was the cherished daughter of Henry D. and Sallie B. Carter. Growing up in a faith-filled household, Patsy's early years were spent nurtured by the teachings of Christianity. As she embarked on her educational journey, Patsy showcased her brilliance at Captain Shreve High School, graduating with honors in 1973. With determination and zeal she pursued higher education at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. In 1977, she proudly earned a degree in Microbiology and Physiology, making her an illustrious graduate. During her time at university, Patsy became a proud member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., fostering lifelong bonds of sisterhood.
After graduation, Patsy wholeheartedly dedicated herself to the field of healthcare. She found her calling as a Medical Research Associate at Ochsner LSU Health Academic Medical Center, formerly known as Louisiana State University Medical Center. Her exceptional work and contributions in various specialties, including Cardiology and Gastroenterology, earned her numerous accolades and recognition for her outstanding articles and papers. Patsy;s commitment to her community extended beyond the walls of the hospital. As an active member of Magnolia Baptist Church, she enthusiastically participated in various ministries, including the Nurses Guild and Media Ministry. Her dedication to serving others shone brightly as she coordinated the annual Vacation Bible School picnics, bringing joy and spiritual enrichment to countless children. Later, Patsy found a spiritual home at I Am Five Fold Ministry under the leadership of Apostle Jackie Holloway. There, she faithfully served as a Deacon and Media coordinator, using her talents and abilities to uplift and inspire her fellow congregants. Among Patsy's many passions, photography and audiology held a special place in her heart. She skillfully combined these talents to establish P & J Audio-Videography-Photography, a business dedicated to providing affordable photography services to her community. Through her entrepreneurial spirit, she touched countless lives, capturing precious moments and creating lasting memories for families and friends.
On February 18, 2024, after a courageous battle with illness, Patsy peacefully transitioned from this earthly realm. Her departure left a void in the hearts of her loved ones, including her sister Cathy R. Cater Matthews (William Matthews), her devoted niece and caretaker, Adadziwa Amartey (Kookie), nieces, Camille Richardson, Sophia Carter, Sara Carter, nephews, Rickey Carter, Denzel Carter, Demario Mester, a host of great nieces and great nephews, a lifelong special sister/friend, Jessie Turner McWhorter, three god-children, Pastor Patrick L . Dennis, Tomassa Turner and Chasity Turner Evans and many loving friends and co-workers.
She will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith, her generous spirit, and her culinary skills that brought people together around the table. Patsy Ruth Carter's legacy is one of selfless service, unwavering faith, and a love for capturing life's beautiful moments. She will be eternally cherished and remembered as a beacon of light who touched the lives of countless individuals throughout her remarkable journey.
A visitation for Patsy will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bright Star Baptist Church, 3330 Meriwether Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM. Patsy will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park.
