Richard Scott “Buzzy” Matthews went to be with Jesus on October 5, 2016. Richard resided in Shreveport, Louisiana and was 46 years old. He was born in Shreveport to Noel Matthews and Jay Dee Matthews. Richard graduated from Logansport High School, class of 1988. Richard served two years in the Louisiana Army Reserves and was a combat veteran during Desert Storm. He was married in 1994.
For over 20 years, Richard ran a very successful landscaping business, known as ‘Avant Garde-ner.’ He had a true creative gift from God. His glorious artistic work was admired by all who knew him. Palm trees of every variety and day lilies were his passion. Richard was a hard worker. He thrived on
making everything he touched beautiful. Whether he was installing a decorative patio for one of his loyal clients, planting grass for a builder, or just sprucing up an annual flowerbed, his talent was undeniable.
You might see Richard in his big dually diesel truck sporting around town, usually with his side kick, beloved daughter, and the apple of his eye, Aubrey. He adored his precious daughter, Aubrey, and enjoyed time with her watching movies, listening to music and eating out. Richard loved all his family deeply. He loved his friends and employees. And, he loved his Lord and Savior. He was always outspoken for Jesus and raised his daughter in the ways of the Lord. Richard was a long time member of Word of Life Church in Shreveport.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Aubrey Matthews; sisters, Mary Pody and husband Stan and Jessica Williamson and husband Cliff; parents, Jay Dee and Noel Matthews; niece, Kinsey Pody; and nephews, Kaden Pody and Ashton Williamson. He is also survived by his former spouse, Robin Matthews Flatt, and former mother in law, Shirley Rinkle Young. Richard was preceded in death by his former father in law, Hugh Rinkle.
