Samuel Boyce Brice Jr. was born December 18, 1934 to the late Samuel Boyce Brice Sr. and Ruth Brice Dieball. He was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, Louisiana, where he served his community and country proudly. He spent his life dedicated to serving others. His love for his family was unyielding. He adored his wife, his family and friends.
Sam honorably served in the United States Navy and then again in the United States Army during the Korean War. In later years, he turned his service to his city in the Shreveport Police Department where he served as the Auxiliary Police Chief for many years. After retiring from his "regular job" as a supervisor for Gould/GNB Battery, he became a security guard in the Willis Knighton Health System where he was also known for brightening the smiles of countless children in the pediatric wards. Again Sam returned to local law enforcement with the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office for several years before retiring from public service for the final time. Throughout his life he showed his integrity, selflessness and devotion to duty and honor.
He believed deeply in giving back and spent countless hours volunteering, supporting his fellow veterans, and working to improve the lives of those around him. He was involved in many organizations throughout his life includings, VFW, the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a strong supporter of the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program bringing much joy to thousands of local children over many years.
Sam and his wife, Nina were known for their tradition of distributing stuffed animals to children in the pediatric ward at Willis Knighton Hospitals in the area. Their smiles, kind words and simple acts of kindness touched many lives and spread joy. The thing most important to him was caring and supporting those around him.
