Born in Shreveport to Lucille C. Houston and James Leslie Houston, Samuel remained rooted in the community that raised him. A proud man of faith, he lived a life guided by his deep belief in God and his enduring love for family.
Samuel was a retired truck driver, a profession he cherished. He took great pride in life on the road, and he often spoke of the joy he found behind the wheel and the many stories he gathered along the way. When he wasn’t driving, Samuel found companionship and comfort in the dogs he loved so dearly.
He is survived by his daughters Samatha Blackburn (Wesley Philyaw) and Dorothy Pollock (Brian Bowers); his sister Gwenda Roe; his grandchildren Kayla Blackburn, Daphne Blackburn, Zachary Blackburn, Gweneth Blackburn, Deaccon Pollock, Adrian Pollock, Nicolis Pollock, and Lilliane Pollock; and his great-grandchildren Elida Blackburn and Elijah McElhaney.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, James Leslie Houston and Lucille C. Houston; his brother, Rueben P. Houston; and his sister, Johnnie Carroll Houston.
Samuel will be remembered for his strong faith, his dedication to family, his love of the open road, and the warmth he shared with all who knew him.
