Sarah was born in 1932 in Quitman, Louisiana and married Arnold Horrell in 1948. Sarah eventually moved to Monroe, Louisiana where she began her 30-year career with Sears, retiring as the Credit Central Manager in Jackson, Mississippi.
After retirement, she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to be closer to her sister and family. She joined Broadmoor United Methodist Church where she attended the Upper Room Sunday School class and met the love of her life, James Schlater. Sarah and Jim married in 1994 and began their life together, traveling throughout the country, drinking Arkansas wine, and cheering for their LSU Tigers.
After Jim's unexpected death in 2005, Sarah dedicated herself to her church, her friends, and her family. She also loved being "Grams" to her "sweet baby" Sarah Owens, husband Tim and daughters Amelia and Abigail. More than anything, Sarah lived her life as a devoted Christian and relied on her faith during good times and bad, and it is that faith that is carrying her loved ones through the pain of her loss.
Sarah was preceded in death by her birth mother Mary Baird; loving parents, Lonnie and Clementine Aldy; first husband, Arnold Horrell, second husband, James Schlater, and her sister, Nancy Lonette Kurtz.
Sarah is survived by her two beloved nieces, Marissa Elizabeth Carbine (Tim); their children, Jared (Zoe), Connor, and Seth; Katherine Kelly Watson (Jason), and their children, Alex and Madison. She is also survived by her loving stepchildren, Chris Schlater, Nancy Schlater Shields, and Kelly Schlater Mahler (John), and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
