Shreveport, LA- William Clark "Dub" McCall, Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 22, 2013 at the age of 97 following a brief illness. A celebration of a life well served will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home in Shreveport with the Reverend Mark Bray of Summer Grove United Methodist Church presiding. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. McCall was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Minnie McCall; brothers, Gordon, John and James McCall; sisters, Margie McCall and Mildred Pruitt and the special love of his life, his wife of fifty three years, Inez McCall.
He leaves to cherish his memory, son, William Clark "Scooter" McCall, Jr. and fiance' Leah Sakovich; grandson, Thomas McCall; brother, Davis McCall and wife Maurice; sister, Katie Winkle and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Last but certaintly not least, his constant companion and guardian for the last two years, his beagle Lilly ("punkin").
Mr. McCall served with the 101st Airborne in World War II, seeing action in the European Theater Operations, particularly in Bastogne, Belgium where he participated in the infamous Siege of Bastogne. He was forever linked with his fellow heroes as one of the "battered bastards of Bastogne" as they came to be known. He continued to support his fellow Veterans as a long time member of the Lowe McFarland American Legion in Shreveport.
Mr. McCall was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Shreveport where he served as an Usher for well over fifty years until age and health concerns no longer allowed his participation. We will remember him as a devout Christian, one who didn't just "talk the talk" but "walked the walk", as well. He was fond of reminding all of us that even when things got tough, God is always in control and that He always takes care of his Children. That memory will help sustain us as we go forward without him.
The family would especially like to thank the 4th Floor Nursing staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont, St. Joseph's Hospice and longtime caregivers, Rosie Hawkins and Sheila Anders for their care, kindness and compassion.
