

PRICE, Benjamin White - 94, Shubenacadie/ Ontario, passed away peacefully, June 29th , at his daughter’s home in Shubenacadie, surrounded by his family. Born in Grand Bank, NFLD, he was the eldest son of the late Thomas and Hannah (White) Price. Ben joined the British Navy in 1940. Served on the warship King George V (KG5). He was the gunner who spotted the Bismarck on the horizon. The KG5 fired the first shot that took out her communications systems, then at 9 o’clock, Tuesday, May 27, 1941 the mighty Bismarck went down. Ben enjoyed family gatherings, Y&R, curling and the Blue Jays (although a little disappointed with them, the last few games he got to watch). A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughters Shirley (Bernie) Soldan, Shubenacadie; Dorothy Walz (Brett Lee), Ontario; son Benjamin Price, Ontario; sisters Essie Grandy, and Rose Day, brothers Earl Price, (Dolly), and Leonard Price all of Ontario; grandchildren Gary, Cody, Deanna, Catherine, Bernard James “BJ”, Danielle, Ron and Leonard Anthony; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Benjamin was predeceased by his loving wife Elvina and son Leonard Donald, brothers Max, John and Tom. Visitation 2-4 & 6-8, today with funeral service 2 pm, Saturday, July 2, all in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. Flowers welcome. Special thank you to Heather, Megan and nurses.
