John Francis Mackey

MACKEY, John Francis “Jack” – 73, Shubenacadie, passed away May 28, 2011, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, after a recent diagnosis of cancer. He was a son of the late John P. and Doris (Flemming) Mackey. Jack worked in safety equipment for many years and became president and general manager of Marine Equipment Ltd. (Halifax) which enabled him to indulge in his love of travelling abroad. He had been involved in many different organizations, but most important was his involvement with the Mill Village Church of Christ where he served and ministered for years. Many will miss the big man with the big heart and a big singing voice. Surviving are wife, Joan (Wallace), of 52 years; daughter Tanya (Darren) and their children, Matthew (Kristin) Boehner, Zoe and Mya Mackey-Boehner; son, Chris (Andrea) and their children, James (Lesley) Mackey and Jessica Mackey; daughter, Lorie and her children, Coral and Kieran Yorke; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Mackey and Liam Boehner; sister, Louise (Gerry) Fredericks; brother, Bernie (Hilda); and sister-in-law, Doreen. Predeceased by brother, Robert. Visitation Wednesday, June 1, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie (902-758-3259). Funeral in the chapel at 3 p.m Thursday, June 2, conducted by George Mansfield.
