Lorna Gladys Barr MacPhee

MacPHEE, Lorna Gladys, 89- Shubenacadie, passed away Sunday July 24, 2011 at the Braeside Home for Special Care, Middle Musquodoboit. Born in Shubenacadie, she was a daughter of the late Richarson and Nettie (Haughn) Barr. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Following her education at the Nova Scotia Normal College, she embarked on a 32 year career in the teaching profession. Lorna enjoyed her vocation and truly taught from the heart. During her lifetime she was an active member of the Shubenacadie United Church and the Moran Unit UCW, the Lionettes and Crescent Rebekah Lodge. Some of her interests were travel, music, family gatherings and time spent at the cottage with friends. She will be truly missed by her best friend and husband of 65 years, Mel MacPhee, son Avard (Gail) MacPhee, Shubenacadie, granddaughters Michelle (Matthew) Caldwell, Greenfield; Tara (Payne) Nickerson, Lower Sackville, great granddaughters Jenna, Sarah and Isabella, sister-in-law Lorna Barr, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Norman, Elmer and George Barr; sisters-in-law Shirley and Bessie Barr. Visitation will be 2-4pm and 6:30-8:30pm today, Monday July 25, 2011, at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2 Shubenacadie, with a Rebekah’s Lodge service commencing at 6:30pm. A funeral service will be held 2pm Tuesday July 26, 2011in Shubenacadie United Church, M. Dale Crawford D.L.M. officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Special thanks to staff and friends at Braeside Nursing Home for the excellent care shown to Lorna during her stay.
