Abelardo Lampa Lugue

Abelardo Lampa Lugue, affectionately known as Abel, from Washington, DC died on June 9, 2025 at the age of 88. He is survived by his daughter, Leila Greenawald, and a sister, Emerenciana, who still lives in the Philippines.

Born on October 20, 1936 in Bacolor, Pampanga, Philippines, Abelardo moved to the United States in 1977 with the help of his siblings. He settled down in Washington, DC where he met Purita Fallurin in 1980. Abel and Purita eventually married on November 4, 1981. In 1984, Abelardo became a father when Purita gave birth to their only daughter.

Cooking was one the things Abelardo loved doing around the house. He would make plenty of Filipino food for his family and visitors. He also enjoyed a cup of coffee at any point in the day. Abel enjoyed taking walks around their neighborhood and chatting with neighbors, making friends wherever he went. Abel also enjoyed spending time at the nearby parks, people watching and feeding the local birds. Abel was incredibly devoted to his wife and in his later years spent most of his time taking care of Purita and the household.
