Curtis LeRoy Broadie was born September 24, 1967, in Goldsboro, North Carolina to Crystal Bell Broadie and John Frank McClain. However, he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Archie Faison from an infant. Curtis' family moved to Washington, DC when Curtis was very young. There he attend public schools and in 1985 graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School where he excelled in many sports, especially basketball. Gifted in art and design, Curtis studied and graduated from the Drafting Institute of Maryland.
In 1992, Curtis married the love of his life, Kimberlee Fisher. Curtis and Kimberlee were blessed with three amazing and beautiful children.
The joy of Curtis' life was his children, Casey LeAnn, age 23, Curtis, Jr., age 21, and Grace Alexandra, age 16, and his wife and best friend, Kimberlee. He devoted everything to them through his actions, unconditional love, and total devotion. They were his everything and he freely shared with everyone he knew how proud he was of all three of his children. The last few years, the Broadie family went on amazing trips to St. John, St. Thomas, and Puerto Rico. This year, August 10-19, 2015, they were incredibly blessed to share a phenomenal life-changing trip to Hawaii. The beauty and spiritual depth of these memories will be with the Broadie family through this very difficult time. Curtis' essence is with them through and through. He poured every ounce of his soul into his children. They are his legacy and his life's joy!
Curtis was employed with Gutschick, Little and Weber (GLW) for almost 30 years. He was blessed to have many close work friends who were like family. Waymond was his brother and Mr. Weber was his Dad. Amazing place to have a career. They treated Curtis very well and Curtis devoted himself to his career. Curtis rarely missed work. Curtis was diagnosed with kidney disease is 2011. . He did self dialysis in the evening so he continue to live as normal as possible doting on his children and continued to keep a full schedule of work and activities. He received a kidney in September 2013. We are so grateful for the team at Medstar where he received excellent care. He became very close with those involved with his extensive care and transplant process. Curtis persevered through his illness and was a true testament of Christ's redemptive power.
Curtis was an all-around athlete. Whatever (and we mean whatever) sport he attempted he mastered with great success. Curtis' love in his later years was golf but boy did he love to coach and play basketball with his baby girl Grace. He never missed a game or practice. NEVER! He taught many of his friends and family how to play tennis, basketball and golf. His greatest pupil was teaching Grace the game of basketball with countless talks about UNC and Dean Smith and they analyzed each and every game. He taught Kimberlee' tennis with great patience and his son Curtis who is an excellent player . He was very active in the Greenbelt Little League with his son Curtis Jr., Travel Baseball, and of late very involved with Paint Branch High School's baseball team (with Curtis Jr) and basketball (with Grace). He embraced all the team players and encouraged them to do their very best. Curtis gave it HIS ALL!!
Curtis leaves behind his wife and best friend, Kimberlee' Fisher-Broadie, daughter, Casey LeAnn, son Curtis Jr., daughter Grace Alexandra; his living mother Crystal Bell Faison and his stepfather Archie Faison; his father John Frank McClain, Sr.; siblings Timothy Frank McClain, Tammy Dorise McClain, Shaniqua Joy McClain and John Frank McClain, Jr. His sister, Sonya Renee McClain-Salazar preceded him in death. He also leaves behind a host of loved ones whom are too many to name. You know who you are and what you meant to Curtis-whether a childhood friend, sibling, aunt, uncle, spiritual parents, GLW family, the kids he mentored whom he love as hie own.
We are going to miss Curtis so very much. He was an integral part of Kimberlee' Casey, CJ and especially his baby girl's life.
isaiah 61:3-and provide for those who grieve in Zion-to bestow on the a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garnet of praise ins tread of a spirit of despair. The will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
DAD,
We saw you getting tired
and the cure was not to be
So God put His arm around him and whispered, "Come with Me"
Although we loved him dearly,
we could not make him stay
His golden heart stopped beating,
hardworking hands to rest,
Our hearts are broken
but our comfort is in God
Your Loving Children,
Casey LeAnn, Curtis LeRoy Jr, and Grace Alexandra
