Donald Wayne Seaton, 90, passed away on July 5, 2025 in Adelphi, MD. He lived a good, long life marked by travel, adventures, family, and a strong intellectual curiosity. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
He was born on September 28, 1934 in New Kensington, PA to parents Charles “Bob” Seaton and Suzanne Maude Seaton (McGee). Raised outside of Pittsburgh in Springdale, PA, he attended Carnegie Mellon University where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering. He moved to the Washington, DC area shortly thereafter for work. While attending the University of Maryland to earn his PhD in Mechanical Engineering, he met his future wife, Carolyn.
He loved traveling, outdoor adventures, playing the piano, listening to music and studying math, physics, and languages. He was a notably nostalgic person and enjoyed telling stories about his childhood. He loved to wow people with his encyclopedic knowledge of random factoids and statistics. He spent 35 years of his engineering career working for BAE Systems (formerly Vitro Corp).
He is survived by his three children, Gwendolyn Seaton (Michael Robinson), Michael Seaton (Deena), and Lori Da Ponte (Stephen), as well as 3 beautiful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Virginia Barnes Seaton.
