Eleanor Ruth Thurber

Eleanor Hiatt Thurber, 85 passed away peacefully on 3/15/23. Eleanor (Ellie) always had a high spirted outlook on life and was loved by many. Born in Huron, South Dakota and raised in Joliet, Illinois. Ellie graduated from Eastern IL University with a BA in Elementary Education. Married in 1960 to husband John Thurber, moved to Colts Neck, New Jersey where she taught second grade. Moving to Maryland to raise a family she continued teaching elementary school for several years. She later worked for the Health and Human Services as a Financial Analyst in Rockville, MD. After retirement in 1991, Her journey enlightened by traveling, home decorating, visiting friends, and much laughter. Her life’s enjoyment continued with involvement in the Episcopal church choir, Montpelier Mansion, Tri Sigma sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution, the local garden club and loving her grandchildren.

Ellie is survived by her husband John Thurber- married 62 years, son Don Thurber, son Steve Thurber and wife Denise Thurber, grandson Bryce Thurber and granddaughter Jane Thurber. Brother- Ralph Hiatt and wife Sally Hiatt. Cousin: Marsha Cooper. Nephews: Alan Zeleznikar, Paul Zeleznikar, Mike Ryan, Rob Ryan, David Hiatt, and Jennifer Grant

She will be greatly missed. A celebration of her life will be planed for a later date.
