

Flora Wharton, 84, died February 8, 2021, in Silver Spring, MD. Flora was born May 8, 1936, in Barco, NC to Grover and Aida Jones. She moved to the Washington, DC area in the mid-1950's, having been recruited by the FBI out of high school. She met Audie Wharton at a church picnic in 1962, and they were married at Forcey Memorial Church on September 28, 1963. They lived in Olney, MD until moving to Leisure World in retirement. She spent over 30 years of her professional career as an executive secretary at the National Science Foundation. Her interests included family, faith, visiting historical sites like Williamsburg, and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy in her retirement years to being "Aunt Flo"-an extra grandma for her nephew's children. Flora Wharton is survived by her husband, Audie, and their nephew Zeke (Cheryl) and their two adult children, Bethany and JD. She was preceded in death by all six of her siblings-GC, Carlton, Eldon, Inez, Margaret, and Forrest. A private memorial service will be held Saturday, February 13 at Forcey Bible Church in Silver Spring.
