Frances Marie Farmer Brown was born to William and Estelle Farmer on March 13, 1937. The oldest of three daughters, Frances grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where she attended the Cleveland Public Schools, graduating from John Adams High School in 1954. She enrolled at Bowling Green State University in 1956 where she met Gerry Elder. They were married in 1960.

Fran was a devoted wife and mother and was unendingly dedicated to her career choices. She began working at the Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator then supervisor from 1954 through 1956. Her devoted teaching career began in 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio. In l967 Frances moved to the Washington D.C. area where she continued to teach, profoundly touching the lives of the many children she taught as well as training teachers. She expanded upon her teaching credentials by receiving a Masters Equivalency plus 60 hours from the Montgomery County Public Schools. The highlights of her teaching career was to be named The Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 1972 from the Public Schools of Washington, D.C. and being nominated for the Marian Greenblatt Award, Montgomery County Public Schools in 1993.
The creative ability and talent that Fran possessed could be seen in her home and in all phases of her life and work. This ability allowed even greater influence with students and colleagues during her teaching career.
Fran found happiness when she met William T. Brown who had a great enlightening impact on her life. They were married in 1990. William passed away in 2016.
She leaves to mourn: her two children, Gayla Michon and Bradford Douglas, his wife, Darlene; her beloved grandchildren, Sean Michael and Priscilla; her sister, Loretta; long-time friends, Estelle Moore and Genie Hill; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and good friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904-2861. With a Repast following the Service from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm.
