On Monday, May 29, 2023, HILDA LEONA COBB, age 100, of Silver Spring, MD died at Arbor Ridge Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Estel H Cobb in 2005.
Beloved mother of David Cobb (Peggy) of Lynnwood, WA, Daniel Cobb (Carole) of Loveland, OH, James Cobb (Dawn, deceased) of Germantown, MD, and Catherine Maleski (Daniel) of Mount Airy, MD; sister of Dorothy Pas (Rand) of Pennsylvania. Also survived by seven grandchildren (Jeanette, April, Jessica, Melanie, Ryan, Kathleen, Kristina), five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Mrs. Cobb was born in Taylor, Pennsylvania on January 18, 1923 and was the daughter of Erman and Margaret (Wright) Knepper and granddaughter of William and Grace (Barnett) Knepper and John and Mary (Miller) Wright.
She graduated from Robertsdale HS in 1939 at the age of 16, then earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from Indiana State Teachers College (now IUP) in 1943. She taught Home Economics at Saltillo HS and Martinsburg HS. After seeing an ad for Iowa State College, Mrs. Cobb earned a Master of Science in Child Development and a minor in Child Nutrition in 1951. She started her professional life teaching Early Childhood Development and Nutrition. This lead to her becoming a director of Head Start in Waimanalo, Hawaii and later the director of a Day Care in Rockville, Maryland.
