While I have only had the pleasure of working with Ilene for a very short time, I can't help but feel the weight of this loss as expressed by so many others who have known her for much, much longer.  I would like to send my condolences to her family, friends and all of the colleagues she has touched over the years.  

Rachel,this is  Marlene,  Bankes’ friend . We met once but I continued to get your updates and words about your beautiful family, about  Ilene; her kindness, intelligence, and her being a wonderful mother and a down to earth person. How I wish I had met her. I am so so sorry for your loss! May she rest in peace and may her beautiful memories sustain you. With much love, Marlene and Pierre❤️

My deepest sympathy to the Ilene's family. I had the opportunity work with Ilene on the MMS  project at Goddard and she was just the best in every way. Incredibly smart, patient, and funny. I appreciated her ability to break down complex analysis concepts to make it understandable and relatable to me. More importantly, sharing conversations with her about life events and perspectives, where her love for living and family glowed brightly. 

You are missed, Ilene.

My heart broke the day I heard of Ilene’s passing. Though I was never lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with Ilene directly on any project, our path crossed many times in countless meetings. From the first day that we met while walking up to building 7 for a meeting together, I was struck by her gentleness. As the years rolled on, I came to know Ilene very well as one of most kind individuals that I have ever met. I will miss her dearly as will the entire Goddard community. We are all thankful to her family for sharing her with us. Sending condolences to all that mourn Ilene.

So very sorry for your loss.  Worked with her on several missions. She  always had a such a wonderfully kind, calm and sunny presence that could permeate the room with gentleness  even when dealing with gnarly technical issues.  A true joy to work with and to have known.  Prayers for all who morn her loss. 

My heart breaks for the loss of Ilene! She was a beautiful person through and through.  I will miss her smile and laughter in our endless meetings.  I will miss the end of the day counseling sessions.  She was there for us when we were preparing our late night PSR inputs. She was there for us when she saw the stress we were under.  She would smile and provide a motherly expression of all things good.  She would always talk about her family with loving pride and though we haven't met we know of you with love.   My prayers go out to you and all that mourn Ilene. 

Ilene was one of the most generous, warmhearted and positive people I know. She will be sorely missed. Sending my love to her family. 

While Ilene didn't really like sports, this photo proves that she did go to an occasional baseball game!  This photo was taken in May 2016 when the Detroit Tigers were visiting the Baltimore Orioles.  No, the Mets were not involved.  We had a great time! 

Ilene was a brilliant, kind soul and she will be truly missed. Sending my deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.

Ilene was always very helpful and kind. She brought a positive attitude to our team that helped us all do our best and have fun doing it. The Goddard family will miss her dearly. 

Ilene was a great mentor to a young, female engineer who was still trying to figure out who she "wanted to be when she grew up." I will always remember her patience, empathy, and guidance. It has had a lasting impact on my life and I will continue to think of her. 

ILENE was a kind person.  I remember her always smiling and asking how I was.  I will miss her.  My deepest condolences to her family
