Jean Tufts Burdette, 96, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025. Born on October 8, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jean moved with her family to Maryland in 1940, where she built a long and loving life.
She was the devoted daughter of Emily Bryant Jones and William Jones. Jean married Foster L. Tufts in 1946, and they shared over three decades of marriage until his passing in 1978. In 1989, she married John L. Burdette, with whom she spent many joyful years until his passing in 2012.
Jean is survived by her children, Douglas E. Tufts and Emily Dunn; her brother, Harry Jones; 11 grandchildren; her special grandson, John Edwards II; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands Foster and John; her daughter, Kathleen M. Tufts Lawhorne; sons Stephen C. Tufts and Jeffery A. Tufts; and one granddaughter.
Jean was known for her quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched.
A visitation will be held at Inter-Faith Chapel, located at 3680 S Leisure World Blvd, Silver Spring, MD 20906, at 9:30 AM on the day of the service, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM.
She will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20906.
