Linda Jandorf Rosenberg, 77, passed away peacefully at her new home at Riderwood in Silver Spring, MD, on August 22, 2025. Linda is survived by Michael, her husband of 55 years; her daughter Stacy and her family [husband Adam, children James (9) and Jordan (7)]; Jason and his family [wife Randi, children Madeline (11) and Oliver (10)]; her sister Susan Jandorf Taylor (husband Jerry); and scores of beloved nieces, nephews and friends who were family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Bertha Jandorf.
Born in Baltimore on June 11, 1948, Linda spent her childhood in the small rambler on Pimlico Road, regularly walking the six blocks with her dad to bet on the ponies. After graduating from Forest Park High School in 1965, she met Michael on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ, attended the University of Maryland College Park to be with him, and graduated early so they could get married as soon as possible and begin their life together in January 1970.
They made the long journey from Baltimore to Frederick, and Linda began her teaching career at Eldersburg Elementary School. While we heard some wild stories about her experience there, she was not deterred, and devoted most of her career to childhood education. After a decade-long detour working with her parents at Jandorf Electric, she returned to the classroom and taught preschool for 18 years at Bet Yeladim in Columbia, MD.
Armed with enough children’s books to fill multiple libraries and a catchy ditty for every possible holiday, Linda was not shy about expressing her desire to be a grandmother as soon as possible. Stacy and Jason pushed her to the limit of reasonable grandparent age, but Maddie, Oliver, James and Jordan were worth the wait. She devoted her retirement years to doting on each of them, especially during the week-long sojourn to Cape Hatteras each summer where the whole family could vacation together under one roof.
She became their cherished Kugel and, while it’s not easy to find a grandparent card addressed to “kugel,” their relationship was built around her love of cooking and baking for them – and anyone who happened to be free for Jewish holidays or on Christmas day for her famous open house. In addition to her beloved family, she leaves behind a kitchen supply closet ready to feed 60 and enough stock pots to hold 100 matzo balls.
When she wasn’t attending a grandkid event or cooking for the masses, Linda could be found at her happy place with Michael in Ocean City, MD. We take comfort thinking of her enjoying her coffee on the deck, watching the red-winged black birds, and asking what everyone wants for dinner. We love you, Kugel.
