Nick Anastassopoulos passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on April 25, 2025. He was predeceased by his wife, Wilma, who passed away in 2018 and is survived by his son Andreas, grandchildren Nicole (Rutger Jackson), Nikolas (Alexandra Dotti), Alexander, great-grandson Cyrus, long-time daughter-in-law Kathryn, sister, brother in-laws, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Nick was born in Karpanisi Greece on December 27, 1939, and moved to Athens Greece with his family at the age of 5. At the age of 19 he immigrated to Canada and then a few years later to the United States to live with a sister. Soon he met his wife of almost 50 years and then settled and remained in Maryland.
Nick spent most of his career in food service. He owned two different restaurants, the second being “Papa Nick’s” in Derwood, Maryland. He ran Papa Nick’s with his family for almost 10 years until he semi-retired in 1999. He then went to work for Montogomery Country schools in the cafeteria where interacting with the students brought him joy. Nick’s greatest pleasure was the time he spent with family, especially his grandchildren. He had a real joy for life and enjoyed travelling and meeting people. He appreciated good food and talking about sports and his family. He and his wife spent as much time as possible at their beach homes in Ocean City and Bonita Springs and were especially happy when family came to visit.
