Panthea Renee Mitchell began her journey through this life on June 29, 1958, and departed this life on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 12, 2024. She was born in Mobile, Alabama to the late Mr. Terriell G. Parker and Mrs. Addie B. Jones. She was a longtime resident of Silver Spring, Maryland.
Panthea was educated in the public schools of Mobile, Alabama. She graduated from Williamson High School in 1976, where she was inducted in The National Honor Society and was a cheerleader. Continuing her education, she received an AA. Degree of Bishop State College, a BA. Degree and an MA. Degree from the University of Maryland.
She met the love of her life, Tim on Christmas Day, 1975 at 3 PM in the afternoon.
Panthea’s early careers included being a bank teller, a collection officer, and a Montgomery Country Public school teacher for the past 31 years. Her last tenure was a kindergarten teacher for Greencastle Elementary School, where she passionately taught kindergarten for 19 years. Panthea loved teaching little children and every week she would brag about the progress that her students had made.
She was a member of the National Council of Negro Women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, and a Deaconess of Peoples Community Baptist Church.
Panthea loved to travel with her family. Every year, she planned at least two trips with one of them having to be near water. She loved travelling to Hawaii, The Caribbean Islands or Mexico. Strangely, as much as she liked being near the water, she never got in it.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clinton E. Fikes and Terriell G. Parker III, and one nephew, Edward Lowman Jr.
Panthea leaves to cherish her memories her devoted husband Deacon Timothy G. Mitchell Sr., two sons, Timothy G. Mitchell Jr. and Justin Mitchell, one daughter, Tiaret Mitchell, two sisters, Tanya F. Jones of Mobile, Alabama and Brenda Fikes (Martin) Lowman of Bay Minette, Alabama, three brothers William B. Kennedy of Mt. Vernon, New York, Rev. Marcellus Parker of Mobile, Alabama, and Dr. Cecil (Wubalem) Jones of Savannah, Georgia, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral gathering for Panthea will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Peoples Community Baptist Church, 31 Norwood Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20905, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM.
