Peter was born on March 16, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Western High School and graduated in 1953. After graduation he worked as a mechanic for a Ford dealer. He then entered the Lawrence Institute of Technology for one year and left in June 1955 to enter a three year apprenticeship in stationary engineering. In March 1958 Peter entered the Air Force where he served honorably until March 1960 continuing as a reserve until 1964.
Peter eventually made his way down to Maryland to pursue job opportunities. He entered the elevator trade in July 1960 and devoted 38 years as a highly regarded elevator mechanic.
Peter was also a proud member of the William R. Singleton-Hope-Lebanon Lodge #7. The Grand Lodge of Washington DC presented Peter with a 50 year pin and certificate of appreciation for his achievements and longevity as a Master Mason in June 2023.
Peter had many hobbies. He spent time with his brother Mike hunting and fishing. He was a collector of cameras. He was an avid car enthusiast. He owned and restored many cars and trucks during his life. His 1953 MG TF and his 1931 Ford Model A being his favorites. He shared this enthusiasm with his children. He also enjoyed golfing. When he retired from the elevator trade he worked at Fort George G. Meade golf course.
Peter is preceded in death by his father, Moosegh Manoogian, his mother, Yester Manoogian, and his older brother, Mike Manoogian. Moosegh and Yester immigrated from Armenia to the United States to escape the Armenian genocide.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Queen Manoogian, his daughter, Suzanne Harutunian and her husband Henric Harutunian in Clarksville MD, his son Matthew Manoogian and his wife Brenda in Odenton, MD and his son Peter Manoogian and his wife Heather in Gaithersburg, MD. He also leaves 9 grandchildren to cherish his memory; Sylva, Mari, and Haig Harutunian, Ani and Max Manoogian, and Ryann, Camryn, Payton, and Ashtyn Manoogian.
Peter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His commitment and unwavering faithfulness to his family and friends was admirable and will be greatly missed by us all.
