My condolences  goes out to the family of Dr. Parker. He was a great doctor full of compassion for his patients. I know because I was one of his patients. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here now. He saved my life.  I just found out on the web and I just wanted to let his family know  that I am truely sorry for your loss.

Uncle Dick came to Alaska where his older brother, my dad, and family lived a couple of times. I was very touched that he stopped by in June 1975 to see me and my young family in Fairbanks the very day I came home from the hospital with my youngest child, Carl. Leo, my older son, was  not yet two.  

Then, as my sister Lisa notes, he came to Anchorage for Christmas in 1980.  One evening he rode with my parents through subzero weather 130 miles on an icy highway winding through the Kenai Mountains to visit my home in Seward where I fixed a big dinner and we played several rousing rounds of poker with much merriment and laugher.  

I think the last time I saw my uncle was in the early 1990s in Maryland when I went back East for a conference in DC and I met Soon and Justin over dinner at their home, another evening I remember fondly. 

I know Uncle Dick was very dedicated to medicine and healing. I wish peace for him and his family during  this time of  transition.


I got to know my uncle when I was attending college in Washington, D.C.  While I was looking for housing I was able to stay with his fincee.  Over the next 3 1/2 years we saw each other often particularly when his borther, my dad, or his mom, my grandmother, came to the DC area.  A very memorable moment is when Uncle Dick came to Alaska for Christmas in 1980.  He stayed with my husband and I.  Our roommate had just come off working on the North Slope. While getting off the small plane the plane's blade nicked him on his temple.  The hospital sent him home but said make sure someone checks on you every two hours.  I was that person but felt comfortable doing watching over our roommate.  Had there ben an issue I had a doctor in the house, my Uncle Dick, that I could call on for help.  I also remember Uncle Dick was a bit surprised the hospital didn't keep him longer for observation.

Uncle Richard - thank you for being part of my life.  You will always be in my heart.
