Born August 20, 1944 in Washington, D.C., Robert was the son of Dorothy Dworkin and the late Morris Dworkin. He was a 1962 graduate of Calvin Coolidge High School and earned his associate’s degree from Montgomery Community College before joining the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Columbus during a deployment to the Mediterranean – days he looked back on fondly. Following in his father’s footsteps, Robert later enjoyed a long career in sales where he charmed colleagues and customers alike.
A history buff, he was an avid collector of antiques and historic memorabilia. He was also a regular presence at the Monday night poker table, where he reunited weekly with childhood friends, whom he loved like brothers. Robert was a man with many interests and talents, yet his proudest achievements were the roles he played as devoted father, son, brother, grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his father Morris Dworkin and his sister Rhoda Piatok Sage.
He is survived by his mother Dorothy Dworkin of Silver Spring, MD, his son Jacob Dworkin and daughter-in-law Emilie of University Park, MD; his brother Donald Dworkin and sister-in-law Judy of Silver Spring, MD; granddaughters Cora and Daisy; loving nieces and nephews Ellen Levenson, Edward Piatok, Debbie Walker and Doug Dworkin; and many other family members and friends who loved him.
Services will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Robert’s cherished Labrador Retriever, Memphis, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George’s County, Maryland, http://www.pgspca.org/.
