With deep love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Robert Glasco Owens, affectionately known as “Bobby,” who transitioned peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Robert Glasco Owens was born on November 19, 1941, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Robert Levy Owens and Harriett Glasco Owens. He later relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and eventually settled in Silver Spring, Maryland.
He was a proud Cub Scout and Boy Scout, remaining deeply involved in Scouting throughout the years, especially alongside his son, Brandon, who ultimately achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended Knoxville Junior High School and graduated from South Hills High School in 1959, where he was a member of the cross-country team and served as the principal cellist for the Pittsburgh Public Schools All-City Orchestra.
He went on to participate in ROTC at Duquesne University and pursued studies there before continuing his education at Eastern Baptist College in St. Davids, Pennsylvania.
Bob was baptized in the Presbyterian Church, by his maternal grandfather, The Rev. Dr. Benjamin F. Glasco, who was the minister at Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Manchester section of Pittsburgh.
In the summer of 1985, Bob met the love of his life, Cynthia. Their bond grew, and they were later united in marriage. Together, they shared a devoted life and were blessed with one son, Brandon Jackson Owens.
Bob dedicated many years of service to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration, from which he retired in July 2009. Prior to his federal career, he contributed his skills and work ethics to the Bendix Corporation and the City of Philadelphia.
A gifted cook and baker, Bob took great pride in preparing delicious meals—especially during the holidays—bringing joy to family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. He was also a master gardener who found immense peace and purpose working in his yard. His home and grounds reflected the care and love he poured into them.
Those who knew Bob remember his quiet spirit, generous heart, and unwavering willingness to help others. Bob was a talker, so you had better be prepared to listen for hours as his intellectual conversations could go on and on. Captured perfectly by a close family friend, “Mr. Bob was kind, helpful and looked out for our safety and comfort. He was a joy to chat with.”
He served his community proudly for many years as President of his homeowner's association. A proud Pittsburgh native, Bob remained a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, faithfully cheering on his beloved team.
On December 5, 2025, Bob gained his wings. He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories his beloved wife, Cynthia Owens, and his son, Brandon Owens, both of Silver Spring, MD. He is also survived by one sister, Suzanne ‘Mitzie’ Kiszie (Philip ‘Skip’) of Pittsburgh, PA; one nephew, Jerome R. Drew (Felicia), a great nephew Jerome A. ‘Beanie” Drew, all of Pittsburgh; and a host of loving family members and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Bob’s legacy lives through the countless lives he touched with kindness, dedication, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
