Roslyn Deutsch Phillips died Monday May 31st just 2 days after her husband Frederick Phillips. Roz was born November 25th, 1952, and was raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania by Margaret and Russell Deutsch. She grew up with her sisters Lois, and Mary-Jo. In her youth she was a successful actress, landing commercials and some roles in productions in New York City. After Catholic School, she graduated from Freedom High School in Bethlehem where she enjoyed cheerleading. She was a secretary at Quinn Mechanical in Montgomery County Maryland where she met Frederick Phillips. They were married in 1981. Over the next 40 years they raised four children and were very involved at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Roz created the Drama Ministry there and directed Spring Musicals throughout the 1980's and 90's. She refused to view it as simply "church theatre".. instead demanding the quality rise to rival other productions in the area. Her high expectations and fiesty temperment became legendary and eventually... beloved. Those shows were always filmed by her husband Fred from a perch he created above the pews. He even built the stage they performed upon. The ministry inspired many people to pursue acting and brought hundreds of parishoners together in faith. During this time, she also worked full-time as a secretary for the Montgomery County School Board. In her later years she enjoyed spoiling her seven grandkids, and four great-grandkids, as well as taking trips with Fred to Las Vegas. A memorial service will occur within the next few weeks at Good Shepherd which will also be live streamed.
