Sarah was born May 29, 1969 in New York City and grew up in Briarcliff, NY, as the second child of Robert and Judith Jordan. Sarah is a graduate of Briarcliff High School, Fordham University, and Columbia University’s School of Nursing. Sarah’s nursing profession included nearly twenty years as a community health nurse with Montgomery County, most recently with the county’s pre-natal and postpartum initiative, Babies Born Healthy.
Sarah and her family lived in the Stonegate neighborhood and vicinity of Silver Spring, MD for 17 years, where she was an active member of the community. She hosted endless Halloween parties, pool potlucks, and loved any opportunity to bring people together to celebrate life.
Sarah’s greatest love and most treasured role was that of mother to Daniel, Maya and Naomi. She was the cherished wife of Eran and together they built a beautiful life and family. Sarah loved her children fiercely and nurtured and respected each one for their individual spirits and natural gifts. Her children agree that there could be no better mother, role model or cheerleader than the one they found in their Mom. They loved to travel and enjoyed many family adventures around the world. Her children were guides and comforts in her final days, and we are all comforted by the fact that her beautiful spirit lives on through them.
Sarah saw the best in everyone and radiated pure love and joy. She was equal parts playful, passionate and contemplative and had a special gift for listening and being present in her interactions with those she loved. She had a twinkle in her eyes, a smile that lit up every room and a laugh that could be heard from outer space. She loved to travel, learn new languages, and explore different cultures. She loved food, trying new restaurants, and sharing meals with others. She had a passion for poetry and had a talent for writing her own poems, which she shared with friends. She loved all forms of dance and looked forward to any opportunity to see live dance performances, with a special love of Alvin Ailey. She shared her love of art and culture with her mother Judith, and together they would explore the museums and theaters of New York City. Sarah loved being in nature and was just as at-home in the natural world as she was on the dance floor, with a special fondness for long walks in the wood with her dog Rudy.
Sarah is survived by her mother, Judith Jordan of New York, NY and predeceased by her father Robert Jordan of same address. She is additionally survived by her husband, Eran Kessous, their three children, Daniel, Maya, and Naomi, of Silver Spring Md, and her brothers David, Christopher, and Robert of New York, Pittsburgh, and Menlo Park, respectively. She was the beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews and will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and love of family.
