Virginia Rose DeMatteo, age 99, of Silver Spring died Saturday, Sept 30, 2017, at Brooke Grove Nursing Home. She was born January 24, 1918, in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Daniel and Genevieve DeMatteo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Yolanda DeMatteo, Hilda DeMatteo, Udine Mika, Vivian Demperio, Geraldine Brewer, and her brothers, Edmund DeMatteo and Eugene DeMatteo. As a child, Virginia moved with her family to Solvay, N.Y. During WWII, she came to the D.C. area and worked for various federal agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration, until she retired. A member of many clubs in Leisure World, including the Italian Club, and a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Leisure World, she loved her family, playing golf and traveling. She is survived by her sister, Lillian Werbeck (Arthur) of Camillus, N.Y., and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with the visitation beginning at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia's memory may be directed to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15661 Norbeck Boulevard, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
