
Dr. Irving Zitman, born April 10, 1915 on a ranch outside of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Irving's family moved to Chicago where he attended Carl Schurz High School. He received a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and his Doctor of Medicine from University of Illinois. He was the beloved husband of the late Florence nee Bomze. They married in 1938. During World War II, Dr. Zitman served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps. Returning to Chicago, he built up his private practice in Internal Medicine. He was a brilliant physician and was recognized as such by his appointment to Chief of Staff and President of Michael Reese Hospital in the 1960's. After retiring from practice in 1988, Irv served as an expert medical witness in the California court system and reviewed medical claims for the Social Security office in Chicago until 2009. He had an insatiable intellectual curiosity for everything from world events to sports and the humanities. Even at age 99 he never stopped studying medicine. He is survived by his loving daughters, Marylou Denenberg, Karen (Marvin) Herman, Susan (Dennis) O'Connell, Nancy (Vincenzo) Demasi, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Memorial service will be held at Piser Funeral Services, 9200 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, IL 60077on Tuesday, February 3 at 12 noon.
