Allan Neal Hart, age 69, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the EMMC in Bangor Maine. He was born in Riverside, New Jersey on May 1, 1948 to Albert and Arleen (Yonker) Hart. He was a graduate of Palmyra NJ HS where he lettered in football, a favorite sport.
He earned a degree in Agronomy from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture and attended University of Maine, Orono for post graduate work in the same field.
Upon graduation he worked as a research assistant at the US Department of Agriculture lab in Beltsville, Maryland. Most of his work there required testing various combinations of plants, soils and growing environments. An opportunity appeared that brought him for a short time to the Water Treatment Plant in Detroit, Michigan. Once layoffs started there he decided to make the big leap and return to his real home, the home of his heart, Maine. His stated goal was to not work behind a desk.
From 1979 to 1989 he earned his living as a Ski Instructor in the winter and white-water raft guide in the summer. Both of these jobs required physical ability, attention to detail and responsibility. He constantly studied and trained to be the best he could be.
With the urging of a friend he decided to move to the demanding job of Police Officer. He worked at both Fairfield Maine Police Department and the Somerset County Sheriffs working with many drug enforcements teams. Using his skills learned in that work he embarked on Executive Protection Service where he travelled to major US cities as a personal body guard for an international client. When he finally retired he still hadn’t worked behind a desk.
His hobbies and recreational interests were as challenging as his work. In 1976 he tried out for the US Olympic Cycling team. “Didn’t make it but was good enough to try.” He was a certified scuba diver. His biggest passion was machines, large tractors to small firearms, he enjoyed making them work.
He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Sarah Flanigan Hart, his brother of the heart Peter J. Rogers, several dear friends and many cousins.
In accordance with Allan’s wishes there will be no public services. A private committal will take place in the spring.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
