

Alma was born March 1, 1914 in Waterville, Maine, the daughter of William and Florence (King) Bourgoin.
She married Walter Bouchard in 1934. They had five children; Shirley Thibault of Skowhegan, Roger Bouchard of Largo, FL, Diane Gallant and her husband Eddie of Norridgewock, Sally Moody and her husband Ron of Madison and Dale Bouchard and his wife Germaine of Oakland; she has nine grandchildren, David, Pamela, Karen, Roger Jr, Bob, Wanda, Suzie, Lori, Amy; two Step-grandchildren, Kim and Thumpa; 10 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Walter, a great-granddaughter, a sister Lorette Giroux; three brothers, Edward, Gerald and Norman Bourgoin; 3 half-brothers, Raymond, Donald and Roland Bourgoin.
Alma and Walter owned and operated Bouchard’s Diner in Skowhegan for 27 years and will always be remembered for her dynamites. She then went to work for Redington-Fairview General Hospital in the kitchen in 1971 and retired in 1987 at age 73. She enjoyed playing bingo and bridge with friends. She also enjoyed knitting mittens and hats and crocheted afghans for the hospital to give to the needy. Alma was a devout catholic and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She had a sharp wit and a great sense of humor.
On September 13, 2013, the Boston Post Cane was bestowed upon Alma who at the time was 99 years old. Many of her family members joined her for the presentation ceremony. Her name has been added to the Boston Post Cane Recipient Plaque that is on display in the lobby at the Madison Town Office. The town began tracking recipients of the cane since 1981.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the MaineGeneral Hospice Nurse – Sara and everyone at Woodlawn Nursing Home especially Cindy who brought her donuts every day and to Hope, Deb and Trudy.
Graveside service will be held in the spring at the Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan, Maine on Saturday May 12, 2018 at 11 am.
Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
