

Dorothy Lillian Bilodeau Whittemore, of 7 Pineland Circle, passed away on August 12, at Redington Fairview General Hospital after a brief illness. She was born July 24, 1920 in Fairfield, Maine, daughter of Wallace J. and Roseanna Lemelin Bilodeau.
Dorothy was a cheerleader at Skowhegan High School and graduated in 1938. On October 20, 1941, she married Raymond Clifton Whittemore. They were happily married for 62 wonderful years. She was a member of Notre Dame Des Lourdes Daughters of Isabella for 65 years, holding several offices and a State Trustee. She served as the President of the Ladies of Saint Anne, and was a Cub Scout and Brownie leader. She was a Eucharistic minister, served on the Social Peace Commission, and was Secretary for the Parish. Dorothy loved to sew, knit, crochet, make crafts of all kinds, and play cards with her circle of lady friends.
Prior to her retirement in 1982, she was employed by, Somerset Shoe from 7/19/1938 – 12/1942 as switch board operator, payroll and billing clerk, Lyons Music Co. doing general office work from 1953 – 1954, Cranes Department Store as a Sales clerk from 1956- 1957, Depositors Trust in the bookkeeping department from 3/1957 – 11/19/1960, Sampsons Administration as bookkeeper of 5 stores from 1961- 1965, Arbor Acres Farm doing general office and bookkeeping from 2/21/1966 – 7/25/1975 until the farm closed and moved to CT and was rehired doing pedigree records from 8/12/1966 – 7/25/1975, Lankins Harchery & Richardson farms doing bookkeeping and general office work from Sept. 1976 – 1980, Notre Dame de Lourdes working part time to do office work from 1982 – 1983, and she also worked as an Assistant to the Skowhegan Town Clerk, treasurer and ballot clerk.
Dorothy was pre-deceased by her parents and husband; a brother Wallace J. Jr. and his wife Priscilla Dionne, and twin sisters Joan and Marie who died at birth and a son Jeffrey Peter who also died at birth.
She is survived by a sister Juliette; children David Raymond and friend Sandra of Augusta; Raymond Clifton Jr. and his wife Jolene of Bedford, NH, grandsons David R. Jr. and wife Julie of Winslow; Matthew Wayne and his wife Tammy of Augusta; Martin Peter and his wife Catherine of Portland, great Grandsons Casey of Winslow; Tyler and Trevor of Augusta. Great Granddaughters Nicole and her husband Jason Blake of Richmond; Margaret Robinson and Charlotte of Portland, great Great Grandsons Alexzander of Richmond; and a Great Great Granddaughter Alexis of Augusta, a sister Juliette of Melbourne, FL, a half sister Dorothy Moran of Madison, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held August 21, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Water Street, in Skowhegan with the Father John Manezzi officiating. A burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
