

He was born in Harmony on Feb. 14, 1932 to Leroy Sr. and E. Eveline(Cromwell) LaGross.
He graduated from Harmony High School, class of 1950.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict.
Durwood spent his entire life as a woodsman. He owned and operated LaGross Brothers Logging and Trucking out of Harmony, Maine. He thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the logging industry, from felling the timber, to twitching the wood to the yard, to working the wood up, to trucking the wood to the mills, to having other crews work for him and to trucking wood for other people. His favorite past time was tinkering on vehicle, he loved watching the old western movies and he enjoyed collecting coins.
Durwood was the type of man that would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it.
He was a member of the American Legion Bush Batcher Post 192 in Athens. Durwood himself was a disabled veteran.
He is survived by two sisters, Verlene Brackley and her husband, Glenn, of Gray, Shirley Taylor and her husband, Herman, of Skowhegan, one brother, L. Arthur LaGross and his wife, Jeannie, of Skowhegan, many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
He is predeceased by his Mother and Father, two sisters, Doreen Bowley and Margaret Burton, three brothers, Frazier LaGross, Leroy LaGross Jr. and Orland LaGross.
A graveside memorial service will be held later in the spring at the Libby Cemetery in Harmony.
