She was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Winthrop, the daughter of Forrest and Daphina (Clark) Boiley. Eva attended Mt. Vernon and Kents Hill schools.
Eva married the late Edwin McCarthy in Madison in 1955. The two resided in Athens for their working years and later moved to Hartland. In her living room, Eva made thousands of hats and mittens for the less fortunate over the years.
She worked as a teacher’s aide in the Athens Elementary School for 10 years. She spent many years as a homemaker; she then worked at C. M. Almy in Pittsfield as a supervisor.
Eva found great enjoyment in the company of her family. Her interests included reading, knitting, embroidery and crocheting, along with Sunday car rides to the coast and Mt. Vernon. She loved to work in her flower garden and cheer for Tiger Woods on the weekend.
Eva leaves her four sons, Lewis McCarthy and his wife, Christine, of Greene, Tim McCarthy and his wife, Martha, of Hartland, Kevin McCarthy and his companion, Val Stewart, of Athens, and Larry McCarthy and his wife, Lisa, of Sanford; three sisters, Geraldine Olynick of Canton, Ohio, Beatrice Hapeman and her husband, Stan, of Farmington, and Emily Cadarett and her husband, David, of Readfield; sister-in-law, Elinor Dubois of Madison; brother-in-law, Edgar McCarthy and his wife, Carolyn, of Embden: grandchildren, Erik, Jason, Steven, Alicia, Angela, Shawn, Brittany, Matthew, Michael and Tracy; great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Melanie; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m., at the Robinson/Hopkins
Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Arrangements are under the care of Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
