SKOWHEGAN—Fred B. Currier, 66, passed away on Dec. 12, 2014 at his home in Skowhegan.
He was born on July 31, 1948 in Skowhegan, the son of Bernard R. Currier and Dorothy (Kimball) Currier.
Fred graduated from Skowhegan High School, class of 1968.
Fred worked with his father, Bernard on the Bernard Currier & son Pine Ridge Farm for many years. Fred also worked for Ed Harmon & Sons Fabrication in Skowhegan.
He is a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Skowhegan. He is a founding member of the Skowhegan Sno-Hawks snowmobile club, since 1974, and just recently became an Honorary Member. He is a member of the Kennebec River Rovers camping club. In 1986, Fred and his father received the outstanding conservation farmer award by the Somerset County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Fred and Cyndi celebrated their relationship in a small ceremony on August 27th surrounded by a few close friends. It was a very special day for them. It was Cyndi’s daughter Ellen’s birthday and Fred wanted to share a special day with her.
Fred’s passions were going to the Fryburg Fair and staying the whole week every year for the past last 25 years, he loved going to Blue Grass Festivals all over Maine, he loved going to Oxford Plains for stock car races, he loved dogs, he liked to cook and have Barbeques, enjoyed woodworking and being a home craftsmen, he enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, farming, fishing, knitting, gardening, boating, sailing, trips to the ocean, eating out, going to the truck and tractor pulls, going to Maine Farm Days, owning a 1948 Allis Chalmers G Tractor and since then collected toy tractors, and having coffee with the boys at hMcDonalds.
He is survived by his life partner, Cyndi Richardson of 25 years, of Skowhegan, special aunt, Fay Cleveland of Skowhegan, step sister, Barbara Martin and her husband Charles, of Penn., Cyndi’s children, Ellen Gonzalez and her husband, Edwin Gonzalez and Amanda Hartsgrove, Cyndi’s grandchildren, Anthony Mancini, Hailey Gonzalez, Adrianna Gonzalez, Shawn Cates, and Savannah Hartsgrove, and several cousins. Fred loved Cyndi’s children and grandchildren like they were his own.
He is predeceased by his mother and Father, a brother, Carlton Currier, several Aunts and Uncles, and Cyndi’s son, Steven Hartsgrove.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Me.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Dr. Mann Rd., Skowhegan, Me. with the Rev. Rick Dorian officiating. Interment will be in the spring at the Southside Cemetery in Skowhegan.
