She was born March 5, 1925 in Hingham, MA, the daughter of Ingle G. Dahlin and Hilda (Johnson) Dahlin. Irene, graduated from Quincy High School in 1943 and Wilfred Academy School of Hair Design in Boston, MA.
On July 15, 1944, Irene married Charles F. Magoon in Norridgewock, Maine, where they raised their three children, Cynthia, Wayland and Bradley all of Cornville, Maine.
Irene was an active member of the Skowhegan Grange for 75 years, a member of the Joseph R. Sanford VFW and a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed watching wildlife, being in nature, watching the Patriots play and she also loved cooking.
Irene and Charles owned and operated their apple orchard on Hilton Hill in the 60’s and 70’s. Irene worked at the Women’s Correctional Center in Skowhegan and Hallowell. Irene and Charles were curators for the Redington Museum in Waterville in the 80’s.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Laiho and her husband Alvar, Wayland Magoon and his wife Bonnie, and Bradley Magoon; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
At Irene’s request there will be no formal service and burial will be private at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
The family would like to thank the Redington Fairview General Hospital’s doctors and nurses for their kindness and professionalism during our mom’s stay. A heartfelt thanks to her granddaughter Paula Magoon Hanley.
